We are currently seeking an organized and highly reliable General and Postal Assistant to provide comprehensive support to Galley Beggar Press. (For further information about Galley Beggar Press, head here.)
The Administrative and Postal Assistant will play a key role in ensuring smooth operations by handling outgoing post, maintaining and monitoring our ‘Galley Buddy’ subscriber programme, and generally supporting staff members.
Main responsibilities
· Arranging and executing our post and courier services (managing and sending orders from our online shop and answering customer queries, as well as managing sending any other in-house post, including publicity and prize mail-outs).
· Organizing and maintaining our ‘Galley Buddy’ subscriber programme – including liaising with current subscribers, checking and updating addresses, setting up new subscribers, and organising and maintaining all relevant documents, records, and databases relating to the subscription scheme.
· Managing stationery, packaging, and in-house book stock. (This task involves a certain amount of physical activity; i.e., moving and unpacking boxes of books.)
· Answering all relevant general queries and handling correspondence on behalf of the team (passing on to a relevant staff member or answering directly, as applicable).
· Assist in any other administrative tasks as they arise (these are generally MS Word, Adobe and Excel based tasks).
· Maintain office efficiency by organizing and implementing administrative systems, procedures, and policies.

· Be computer literate and experienced in Abode, Word, and Excel.

· Work well on your own.
· Be clear and professional-sounding in written correspondence.
· Be comfortable with physical lifting of stock and post.
Other details
· The Postal and Administrative Assistant will use the Galley Beggar Office in our home, and will need to be sensitive to the domestic space.
· This position is for a fixed-term contractual position, and applicants will be responsible for their own tax and accounting. Galley Beggar Press will pay two weeks pro-rata (i.e., four 5-hour sessions) leave for the period, to be agreed on in advance.
· At particularly busy periods (e.g., during a Galley Buddy Subscriber mail-out), over-time may be available.
